SBMedia Promotions was established by John Stein in 2000, as a multimedia company with special emphasis on the needs of the profession of optometry. Since then, the primary focus has been the publication of The Optical Assistant, a comprehensive desk reference to price lists within the industry. As well as listing a product finder, medical aid contacts list, and current industry news, it includes material for Continued Professional Development, covering the required 30 CEUs per year.

In response to the need for more innovative marketing in the field of optometry, we developed Maxseen, a virtual try-on facility with a database of a variety of frames, sunglasses and coloured contact lenses. This concept is now available on a number of internet websites.

SBMedia continues to extend its services and to expand its staff to include people with various areas of expertise. Mid-year 2011 saw the launch of EyeMark, an electronic marketing package for the independent optometrist. Website development is a recent introduction for clients both within and outside the optometric profession.
