Cant find lenses under the UNBRANDED category

Cant find lenses under the UNBRANDED category

A recent enquiry from an Optometrist:

I work with a lab who get lenses from local suppliers (none of which are registered with the SAOA). I assume these lenses fall under the “Unbranded label”. However, they have certain lenses that do not fall into the unbranded codes:

  • They supply Reactor Grey photochromic lenses with HMC and HMC +.
  • They also have Transitions 6 lenses in single vision and Bifocal and Multifocal – what codes should I use for these ( the unbranded prices are too low for these products)
  • How would I code the HMC + which is more expensive than the unbranded ARC pricing?

Answer:

The Unbranded set of lens codes is designed for use by practices or small laboratories who import their own lenses. The listing, although fairly comprehensive, does not include every lens option available. It is essential that suppliers importing more specialised lenses apply for their own codes from the SAOA.

How do I code my own import - 1.50 Photochromatic HMC Standard

How do I code my own import - 1.50 Photochromatic HMC Standard

In order to allow practitioners or small laboratories to supply lenses, the SAOA has created a comprehensive list of Unbranded lenses.

What does the 'Rqs HC' column signify?

What does the 'Rqs HC' column signify?

Many Core lenses, particularly High index lenses are not available uncoated. These products are identified by being listed in red and (in most cases) the word YES in the 'Rqs HC' column. Some suppliers even suggest coatings that could be added* (see below).

When ordering and invoicing these lenses, you need to select the Core lens, and then on the next line one of the Hard coat add-ons available from the supplier.

Examples:

  1. 84HY001     Hilux Flat Top 28     This lens does not require a Hard coat to be added.
  2. 84HY004     Hilux Flat Top Acclimates Uncoated
84HY001 Hilux Flat Top 28

This lens does not require a Hard coat to be added. it is invoiced as:

84BS001   Bifocal

84HY001   Hilux Flat Top 28

You can then optionally add one of the Hoya Add-ons

84HY001    Hilux Flat Top 28 Acclimates Uncoated

*Certain suppliers indicate which Add-on should be used with the particular Core code.

As an example, 83CZ003 Zeiss Digital Lens 1.67 Uncoated. The 'Rqs HC' column shows DVS or DVP or DVBP.

This lens is invoiced as:

83BS001 Accommodative Support

83CZ003 Zeiss Digital Lens 1.67 Uncoated

87CZ00F Zeiss Duravision Silver (DVS) or 87CZ01F  Zeiss Duravision Platinum (DVP) or 87CZ02F  Zeiss Duravision Blue Protect (DVBP)
